Maggie’s Centre Southampton submitted for planning

News: Our designs for a Maggie's Centre at Southampton General Hospital are submitted for planning

AL_A’s designs for a new Maggie’s Centre at Southampton General Hospital have been submitted for planning.

Maggie’s Southampton will be set within the haven of a garden transported from the New Forest into the midst of the hospital’s concrete landscape.

Bringing a bit of magic to the place, the building emerges from this wild naturalistic landscape with an almost ethereal clarity.

Subtle, understated and imbued with light, it is designed to lift the weight from the shoulders of all who visit and work there.

Amanda Levete said: “It’s a wonderful privilege to design a Maggie’s Centre and to be involved in a project that will help so many in the South of England.

“I wanted to create a place that is warm, welcoming and full of light, one that dissolves the boundaries between building and garden.

“It will be a sanctuary where people feel safe and valued, lifting the spirits of all who enter.”

Maggie’s provides free practical, emotional and social support for people with cancer and their family and friends.

Maggie’s Centres are warm and welcoming places, built in the grounds of NHS hospitals, where qualified professionals are on hand to offer a programme of support that has been shown to improve physical and emotional wellbeing.
